Show 1138 Friday 15 January
Watch today's show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi I'm Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.

Happy New Year! I hope you’re having an excellent 2010 so far.
I had a great holiday – as you probably know if you’ve watched the last few videos.

I’m so lucky my aunty and uncle invited us to spend New Year’s with them … it was really awesome.

And I’m excited about The Daily English Show in 2010. Last year we were off air quite a bit with stuff like moving and technical issues. But we’re pretty much settled in now and I’m happy we’re back into it. And I’ve got lots of ideas for stuff I want to do here in Auckland. Places I want to take the camera and people I want to interview … so I think it’s going to be a good year.

Speaking of exciting, I have uploaded my Danjo video, finally. These are the glasses I’m wearing in the video.

If you don’t know what Danjo is, there’s a pretty good explanation here.

It’s a dance. And it’s an internet meme … from 2008 actually. But last year when we went on a trip around Hokkaido, knf though it would be fun to film me doing the dance in different locations around Hokkaido. And so we did it and it was fun … and it was also hard work … because I’m not a very good dancer and knf’s a very strict director, so he made me to the dance over and over again. So that was just a bit of fun. It won’t really help your English. But, if you’re interested, follow the link and go and check it out.

Today is Friday, so we’re studying a song.

And the song we’re studying today is another internet meme. But this one is not from 2008 – it’s new, hot off the press!

The name of the song is: Pants On The Ground and it’s by a guy called General Larry Platt who was a contestant on American Idol. And may be the next Susan Boyle.

The song’s about those people who intentionally wear their pants really low on their hips … which it looks cool and sexy or ridiculous depending on your taste.

And General Larry Platt is clearly not impressed with the low pants look:

Pants on the ground, pants on the ground
Lookin' like a fool with your pants on the ground
Hat turned sideways
Pants hit the ground
Call yourself a cool cat, lookin' like a fool.

I think Larry Platt is very cute and I love the song. It’s very catchy.
So go and check it out if you haven’t already - and some of the remixes are very good too.

STICK NEWS

On the 2nd of January a 23-year-old and a 21-year-old broke into a school in Rotorua, New Zealand.
The Daily Post reported the pair forced a door open in the maths building and walked inside, setting off the alarm system.
Before they ran away, they saw an overhead projector remote control sitting on a desk.
Apparently, they thought it was an iPod, so they stole it.
The men were remanded on bail. And will be sentenced on the 10th of March.

On And that was Stick News for Friday the 15th of January.
Kia ora.

Word of the Day

Today’s word is cool cat.

Cool cat is slang for a person who is cool.

For example: General Larry Platt is a cool cat.

conversations with sarah
#720 How much were they?

Step 1: Read Jake's lines.
Step 2: Repeat Jake's lines and talk to Sarah.

Jake The Big Day Out’s on today, isn’t it?

Sarah Yeah, I saw a few buses go past this morning actually, full of people who were obviously on their way there.

Jake You didn’t want to go?

Sarah Nah, the tickets are quite expensive.

Jake How much were they?

Sarah About 150 dollars I think.

Jake Just for one event?

Sarah Yeah, but there are lots of bands playing … so I guess it’s worth it if you’re a fan of some of the bands that are playing.
