#1176 Live Update, Plagiarism In Germany, Free Concert In Otahuhu

Show 1176 Monday 22 February
Watch today's show at YouTube

Hi I'm Sarah. Welcome to The Daily English Show.

Thank you very much to everyone who has commented on show 1162 about which time you’d prefer for a live broadcast.

We’re planning to do that some time in March – we haven’t decided which day yet, but I’ll let you know when we do.
We’ll have a look at all the comments and find a time that suits everyone, or a couple of times. So if you are interested in a live broadcast and you missed that show, then follow the link and go back and check it out, and leave a comment about which time would suit you.

Thank you also to everyone who has left comments under the video we made for the Billi Tees competition. Some people have said that they tried to vote on the group page but they couldn’t and so I tried it out and it seems like you have to join the group before you can vote which is kind of complicated and doesn’t really make sense.
So anyway, it doesn’t really matter, and I suspect the winner will be decided more according to the taste of the judges rather than who gets the most votes.

But if you do want to vote, try logging into YouTube, and making an account if you don’t already have one, and then click on “join group”, then “discussion” then “I love it”.

STICK NEWS

A seventeen-year-old German girl has written a novel about sex, drugs and teenage self-discovery.
The book is a best-seller and has been nominated for a prize.
But the author has been accused of plagiarism.
A blogger discovered that she had stolen entire pages from another author.
But the teenage novelist isn't worried. She says it's not plagiarism,
it's intertextual mixing.

And that was Stick News for Monday the 22nd of February.
Kia ora.

Dinner time!
Later, mum... I'm doing some research and some writing.

That's STEALING! How could you do that?!
Meh, whatever. It's 2010, I can do whatever I like.

conversations with sarah
#746 Was it in a park?

Step 1: Read John’s lines.
Step 2: Repeat John’s lines and talk to Sarah.

John Did you go to any events last weekend?

Sarah Yeah, I went to another free concert.

John Where was it?

Sarah It was in Otahuhu, which is south of here. It’s not that far actually, it’s about, like, ten minutes on the motorway.

John Was it in a park?

Sarah Yeah, it was in a park called Sturges Park.

John Were there many people there?

Sarah Not as many as I thought there would be actually. It was such a beautiful day though, so maybe everyone went to the beach instead.
