Show 570 Tuesday 4 December

Watch today’s show at YouTube or BlipTV.

Hi, I’m Sarah, welcome to The Daily English Show.

The Snow Report is back. We had The Snow Report last winter and it started again yesterday.

And I have some exciting news about that ... every Friday we’re going to be filming The Snow Report at Loaf Lounge – which is a bar ... or a lifestyle concept store according to their flyer, it’s here in Kutchan, just around the corner.

Every Friday we’re going to go there and talk to some people on camera about something ... I don’t know what about ... something to do with snow. It’s going to be fun.

We did some filming there last year too. Check out these shows (236, 241) if you haven’t seen them already.

And I also filmed some skateboarding there too (here and here).

So, if you want to be in Friday’s snow reports, just go to Loaf Lounge at around 8 o’clock.

And hopefully we’re going to find some other interesting places to do The Snow Report – otherwise it’s just going to be me wandering around Kutchan filming cats and stuff.

In other news, the survey’s coming along really well, we’ve had a good response so far. And it’s been really interesting reading them, so thank you to everyone who has sent them in.

If you don’t know what I’m talking about watch this show.

The survey finishes next Tuesday, so if you haven’t done it yet, please do! The more people that do it the better. Thank you!

STICK NEWS

Kia Ora, in Stick News today the most trendy words reflecting Japanese society in 2007 have been announced.

On the 16th of September 1957 a baby was born in Miyazaki Prefecture. His parents called him 東国原 英夫, (Higashikokubaru Hideo).
When the boy grew up, he became a comedian and acquired the name そのまんま東, (Sonomanma Higashi).
He worked as a comedian with Takeshi for many years and in January 2007 he became the governor of Miyazaki Prefecture.
In his first speech after becoming became the governor he said the phrase どげんかせんといかん (dogenka sento ikan). Kyodo news translated it as: I have to do something.
A selecting body comprising of a publisher and a correspondence course provider, chose the phrase as one of the trendiest of the year.
The body said it “... clearly showed the governor’s appeal in the local dialect and touched the right cord of people nationwide.”
The other top phrase of the year was ハニカミ王子 (Hanikami Oji) translated as Bashful Prince, the nickname of Ishikawa Ryo.
Ishikawa won a golf tournament this year when he was only 15 years old.
The body said he “... evoked a great sense of nostalgia among Japanese for a modest young man with his great smile and manners, which are now a dying breed in Japanese society.”

And that was Stick News for Tuesday 4th December.
Kia Ora.

Sarah Um, that’s been moved ... to ... by the pool table. And there’s a new seating area near there as well.

Jimmy Cool. I’ll have to check it out.

Sarah They’ve changed around the inside room a bit too.
